Baphomet

This image of Baphomet was inspired by the classic representation by Eliphas Levi. Before creating this sculpure, I made a statue of Baphomet in clay which was 19"/49cm high, but which exploded when fired, destroying a number of smaller statues (I later rebuilt it). The statue shown was made as a limited edition piece and is 12½"/32cm high and 11"/28cm wide. It is cast in ferracotta, a material which contains iron particles and looks like terracotta. I hand-carried a Baphomet through U.S. customs some years ago and when the box went through the X-ray machine everyone could see the devilish outline of Baphomet - I thought for a moment I was going to be sent back!
